 <![CDATA[CARENCRO LA - March 12, 2012 will go down as a day in history for the Carencro Fire Department, and the City.&nbsp; Rains began early in the morning and continued persistantly all day creating a record flash flood event.&nbsp; It became evident, early in the morning that the situation was deteriorating very quickly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Chief Haydel then requested a General Alarm to all area Fire Departments for manpower and high water vehicles.&nbsp; With the assistance of the Carencro Police Department, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, and many other area agencies, several hundred calls were processed for high water rescues. &nbsp;CFD utilyzed it's Rescue Boat (Marine 31) to perform countless rescues by utilyzing the existing drainage canals and city streets to bring stranded persons to safety.&nbsp; Our heartfelt thanks to the following departments for providing assistance:&nbsp; Broussard Fire, Duson&nbsp;Fire, Scott Fire, Youngsville Fire, Judice Fire, Milton Fire, and Lafayette Fire Departments.&nbsp; In addition the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries provided air boats to assist in rescues.&nbsp; From all of us in Carencro, Thank You....]]>

 <![CDATA[Story from KLFY.comAt 2:50&nbsp;Sunday
 morning, Lafayette and Carencro Fire Departments responded to 2700 N. 
University, Texaco Food Mart, to a reported fire at the convenience 
store. Lafayette Sheriff Department initially responded to this address 
due to a burglary alarm being activated. 
When deputies arrived, heavy smoke was coming
 from the building. The fire department was notified of the situation. 
Firefighters arrived within minutes and gained access through the front 
of the business. The interior of the business was filled with smoke. 
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The business sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. There
 were two other businesses attached to the Texaco Food Mart: Crispy 
Donuts and Speedie Pay Day Loan. Both business sustained very light 
smoke damage. They are still in operation. Mangers
 with the Texaco Food Mart closed the store around 11:00 last night. The
 motion detectors in the store activate the alarm system.Fire
 investigators determined that the fire originated around a sandwich 
cooler located in the middle of the store. The open-display cooler 
sustained heavy fire damage. Further investigation into the cause of the

 	<title>Fire Destroys Carencro Home</title>

 <![CDATA[At 3:53 this morning, Lafayette, Carencro, Scott, Cankton, and Prairie Fire Departments responded to 1113 Rue Des Etoiles to a reported house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the dwelling. Firefighters entered the dwelling attempting to locate the fire. They managed to reach the smoke-filled upstairs area at which time they discovered the fire was in the attic. While extinguishing the fire in the attic, the fire penetrated the roof unbeknownst to the interior attack crew. Exterior emergency crews sounded the alert to evacuate due to the fire engulfing the roof. Interior firefighting crews exited the dwelling just as the roof and ceiling began to collapse. All interior firefighters escaped without any injuries. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately thirty minutes before getting it under control.

The two-story dwelling, owned by Ms. Dawn Laviolette, was completely destroyed by the early morning blaze. Ms. Laviolette and her daughter where asleep when they were alerted by the sound of their smoke alarm. They noticed the upstairs was filled with smoke. They were able to get the pets out and called 911.

Fire investigators are examining the scene and interviewing the occupants to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Preliminary results indicate that the fire originated in the attic of the dwelling. The cause of the fire is still under investigati...]]>
